Charles Whiston, Minister Emeritus
In 2018, The Rev Charles Whiston was granted Emeritus Status after 28 years of ministry at South Congregational Church. He now lives in North Carolina and supports several ministries addressing homelessness and food insecurity. He returns to Acton, Maine in the Summer, and will usually pay a visit or two to the church, sometimes in a worship leadership role.
Rev. Charlie was an integral part of the Kennebunk community and kept the South Church outreach ministries vibrant, meaningful and impactful which was not only faithful ministry but is the strength of South Church we hope to honor and expand. Rev. Charlie previously served the Congregational Church in Gray, Maine for twelve years. He has served as the President of the Maine Council of Churches, Moderator of the Maine Conference, United Church of Christ, and lead hiking trips in the NH White Mountains and mission trips to the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina. He received his M.Div. from Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre MA after graduating from Beloit College in Wisconsin. In 1978, he was ordained at his home church in St. Louis. As ordained clergy,- both his Father and Grandfather participated.
